Female Condom

What is it and how does it work?

A female condom is made from polyurethane and is inserted into the vagina so that it covers the vaginal wall's and the skin of the labia and stops sperm entering the vagina.

Effectiveness

Up to 95% effective if used according to instructions.

Who can have it?

Anyone

Advantages

Can be put in anytime before sex. Can help protect from STI's. No serious side effects. Can use oil based lubricants. No spermicide is needed. 

Disadvantages

Penis needs to enter the condom and not between the vagina and the condom. Not as widely avalible as male condoms. The female condom can be pushed into the vagina. 

Risks/Side effects

A new condom must be used each time you have sex.
